The short version
- Dual Recorder records video and photos on your iPhone. Your recordings, photos and scripts never leave your device unless you save or share them yourself.
- There is no account, no advertising, no tracking and no usage analytics.
- The app asks for three permissions: Camera, Microphone and Photos (add only). Each is explained below.
- Captions are written on your iPhone. Speech recognition runs entirely on the device; no audio and no transcript is ever sent to us or to anyone else.
- Two kinds of technical data do leave your device: your Dual Recorder PRO subscription status (handled by Apple and RevenueCat) and anonymous crash reports (handled by Google Firebase Crashlytics). Neither contains your recordings.
- Questions? Email support@evokey.tech.
1. Who we are
Dual Recorder: Dual Camera (“Dual Recorder”, the “App”) is developed and published by EVOLUTION KEY FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (“Evolution Key”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
You can reach us at support@evokey.tech.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what information the App accesses on your iPhone, what is stored, what leaves your device and why, which service providers are involved, and the choices you have. It applies to the App as distributed through the Apple App Store and to any support conversation you have with us about the App.
It does not cover Apple’s own services (the App Store, Apple ID, iCloud, Photos), which are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
3. Device permissions we ask for
iOS asks for your permission before the App can use certain hardware or data. The App requests only the permissions below, only when the related feature needs them, and each one can be changed at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security.
| Permission | Why the App needs it | When it is requested | What happens to the data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camera | To show the live preview and record video and photos from one or two cameras at the same time (front + back, or wide + ultra-wide). | The first time you open the camera screen. | Camera frames are composited and encoded on your device. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Microphone | To record audio together with your videos. | The first time you start a recording. | Audio is written into your video file on your device only. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Photos – Add Photos Only | To save the videos, photos and Live Photos you choose to export into your Photos library. | The first time you save or export something to Photos. | The App only adds items to your library. It does not read, browse or modify your existing photos or videos. On iOS 14 and later we specifically request “Add Photos Only” access. |
If you decline a permission, the related feature will not work, and the App will show an “Open Settings” shortcut so you can change your choice. The App does not request access to your location, contacts, calendar, health data, Bluetooth, local network, or the advertising identifier (IDFA), and it does not use App Tracking Transparency because it does not track you across apps or websites.
4. Information stored on your device
The following information is created by the App and stored in the App’s private storage on your iPhone.
- Your recordings. Videos, photos and Live Photo clips you capture are kept in the App’s library until you delete them or export them to Photos. They are never uploaded by the App.
- Capture details. A small description of how each item was shot (mode, resolution, frame rate, picture-in-picture layout) so the library and editor can display it.
- Teleprompter scripts. Text you paste into the teleprompter, plus your speed, size and opacity settings.
- Settings and preferences. Resolution, frame rate, file format, timer, grid, mirror, language and notification preferences, your onboarding answers, and whether the PRO offer has already been shown this launch.
- Your User ID. On first launch the App generates a random 20-character identifier and shows it in Settings as “User ID”. It is created on your device and is not derived from your name, Apple ID, email or any account. It has two uses: it is the customer identifier the App sends to RevenueCat so your PRO subscription can be recognised (see section 6), and you can quote it in a support email so we can find your purchase. Deleting the App deletes it.
Depending on your iOS backup settings, the App’s data may be included in your encrypted iCloud or computer backups. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by us.
5a. Captions and speech recognition
When you ask the App to write captions for a recording, it uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition to turn the sound of that recording into text. The audio and the resulting transcript never leave your iPhone. The transcript is stored beside the recording in the App’s own folder and is deleted when you delete the recording. The App asks for the Speech Recognition permission the first time you use the feature, and you can refuse it or withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings — everything else in the App continues to work without it.
5. Information that leaves your device
The App has no server of its own and does not upload your content. Only two categories of technical data are sent from the App to service providers, and both are described in full in the next two sections:
- Subscription and purchase data sent to Apple and RevenueCat so that Dual Recorder PRO can be sold, validated, restored and managed.
- Crash reports sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics when the App crashes or hits an unrecoverable error, so we can find and fix bugs.
Neither category includes your videos, photos, Live Photos, teleprompter text, name or contact details.
6. Dual Recorder PRO and in-app purchases
Dual Recorder is free to download and contains no advertising. Exporting video from the editor and saving video clips to your Photos library are part of Dual Recorder PRO, an optional auto-renewing subscription offered in weekly and yearly plans. We use Apple to process payment and RevenueCat, Inc. to validate purchases and keep track of which subscription is active.
What Apple handles
- All payments are made through the Apple App Store using your Apple ID. We never receive or store your credit card number, bank details or billing address.
- Purchase history, refunds and subscription cancellation are managed in your Apple ID settings and are subject to Apple’s Media Services Terms and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
What RevenueCat receives
When the App starts, it configures the RevenueCat software development kit with your User ID and asks RevenueCat’s servers for your current subscription status and the prices to display. When you buy, renew or restore PRO, the App sends the App Store receipt to RevenueCat, which verifies it with Apple and unlocks PRO on your devices. RevenueCat therefore processes:
- your User ID (the random identifier described in section 4);
- purchase information from the App Store receipt: product identifier, transaction identifiers, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, whether the purchase is a trial, and whether it was refunded;
- basic device and app information needed to validate purchases and show the right prices: device model, iOS version, app version, locale and storefront country.
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, Apple ID or payment details, and it does not receive your recordings. RevenueCat acts as our processor and stores this data on servers in the United States under its Privacy Policy and data-processing terms. We use RevenueCat’s dashboard to look up a customer by User ID when you ask us for help with a purchase, and to see aggregate subscription statistics.
Subscribers can open “Manage subscription” in the App’s Settings, which shows RevenueCat’s Customer Center for cancelling, restoring, changing plan or requesting a refund; refund requests are passed to Apple.
7. Crash reports
The App uses Firebase Crashlytics, a crash-reporting service provided by Google LLC, so that we learn when the App crashes and can fix the cause. Google Analytics for Firebase is not enabled in the App, so no events about how you use the App are collected.
A crash report is generated only when the App crashes or encounters an unrecoverable error. It is sent to Google on the next launch and contains:
- the technical stack trace and the App’s internal state at the time of the crash;
- device model, iOS version, orientation, available memory and disk space, and whether the device is jailbroken;
- the App version and build number, and the time of the crash;
- a random Crashlytics installation identifier that is unique to this installation of the App and is reset when you reinstall it.
Crash reports do not contain your recordings, photos, teleprompter text, your User ID, your name, or any contact details, and we do not attach any custom identifiers to them. Google processes crash data on our behalf under the Firebase Privacy and Security terms and the Google Privacy Policy, and retains crash reports for a limited period (currently 90 days). Crash reporting cannot be switched off inside the App at present; if you object to it, contact us and we will help.
8. Information we do not collect
To be explicit, the App does not:
- require or offer an account, sign-in or registration;
- collect your name, email address, phone number or any contact information (unless you email us, see Support requests);
- include advertising, attribution or usage-analytics SDKs, or show advertisements of any kind;
- upload, back up or stream your recordings, photos or scripts to any server;
- collect precise or approximate location;
- read the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies’ apps and websites;
- sell, rent or share personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
9. Support requests
If you contact us at support@evokey.tech (including through the “Bug Report” and support links in Settings, or the contact option in the Customer Center), we will receive your email address, the contents of your message and any details you choose to include, such as your device model, iOS version or your User ID.
We use this information only to respond to you, fix problems and improve the App. We keep support correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your request and to meet legal obligations, after which it is deleted. We do not add you to marketing lists.
10. Third-party services
The App embeds no advertising, social or usage-analytics SDKs. These are the only third parties that receive data from the App:
| Provider | Purpose | Data it receives | Its policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Inc. | App distribution, payment processing, iOS frameworks (camera, microphone, Photos), the in-app rating prompt. | Apple ID and payment data for purchases; Apple’s own device diagnostics per your iOS settings. | Apple Privacy Policy |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Validating purchases and managing the PRO subscription. | User ID, purchase receipt data, basic device and app information (section 6). | RevenueCat Privacy Policy |
| Google LLC (Firebase Crashlytics) | Crash reporting. | Crash reports with device and app information and a per-install identifier (section 7). | Firebase Privacy and Security |
Some buttons in Settings open other apps on your device, for example your mail app to contact us, the App Store to see our other apps or rate the App, or iOS Settings to change permissions. Once you leave the App, the privacy policy of that app or service applies.
11. Data retention and deletion
Because your content lives on your device, you are in control of it:
- Delete individual recordings from the App’s library (single or multi-select).
- Delete exported items from the Photos app; the App keeps no copy of items you export unless they also remain in the App’s library.
- Delete everything on the device, including settings, scripts and your User ID, by deleting the App from your iPhone.
Data held by our service providers is retained as follows:
- RevenueCat keeps the customer record for your User ID for as long as it is needed to honour your subscription. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing your User ID to support@evokey.tech; we will delete the record from RevenueCat. Your purchase remains in your Apple ID account and can still be restored through the App Store.
- Google Crashlytics retains crash reports for a limited period, currently 90 days, after which they are deleted automatically.
- Support emails are retained as described in section 9. You may ask us to delete them at any time.
12. Security
Your recordings and settings are stored in the App’s private sandbox, which iOS protects with the same device encryption and passcode or Face ID protection as the rest of your phone. The small amount of data sent to Apple, RevenueCat and Google is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and those providers maintain their own security programmes. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we limit what leaves your device to the minimum needed to run the App.
13. Children’s privacy
The App is rated 4+ on the App Store and does not contain objectionable content, but it is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The technical data described in this policy is not linked to a child’s identity. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal information, to object to certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Because the App keeps your content on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly: view, export or delete your data inside the App or by deleting the App. For data held by RevenueCat or in support emails, write to support@evokey.tech with your User ID and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Our legal bases under the GDPR are: performance of our contract with you (providing the App and the PRO subscription), our legitimate interest in keeping the App stable and secure (crash reports) and in responding to you (support), and compliance with legal obligations.
15. International transfers
Your recordings and settings stay on your device and are not transferred across borders by us. RevenueCat and Google process the technical data described above on servers that may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Both providers offer contractual safeguards for international transfers, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, and Google participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. If you email us, your message may be processed in the country where we or our email provider operate.
16. Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that changes how the App handles data (for example optional notifications or cloud backup), we will update this policy, change the date at the top, and where required ask for your permission inside the App before the new feature is used. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
